CARNEY GETS ENGLAND CALL-UP

CARNEY GETS ENGLAND CALL-UP

Simon Jasinski21 Dec 2021 - 08:19

We're thrilled to learn that former Ton and Kennington Junior's striker, Noah Carney, has been selected for the England U18's Schoolboys squad.

It's official - Kennington Football Club has an international footballer amongst its alumni!

Noah came through three rounds of qualifying, and impressed enough on Sunday in the final selection process at Lilleshall to make the 18-man squad - less than 24 hours after coming off the bench for Dover Athletic in the FA Trophy at Bromley.

More than 240 players from throughout the country had been invited to the trials before the final 32 attended on Sunday.

The schoolboy squad will face other home nations next year in the prestigious Centenary Shield.

It's been a year to remember for the 17-year-old, who featured in our pre-season friendly against landlords, Ashford United, prior to signing his first professional contract at National League side, Dover Athletic, where Noah was also part of the club's Academy.

Speaking to DoverAthletic.com, the starlet said: “To be honest, I didn’t think I had done enough in the final trial to get picked, so It was unbelievable when Mike (DAFC Academy manager Mike Sandmann) called me to tell me.

“Don’t get me wrong, I am feeling over the moon and I am really looking forward to wearing an England shirt sometime next year, but my focus is now on playing as much as I can for Dover Athletic and the Academy when I can.

“I’ve just got to keep working hard and take any opportunities that come my way to play for Dover.

“I really also want to thank my family, Mike (Sandmann), and the Gaffer (Andy Hessenthaler) for all the encouragement and support they’ve given me throughout this journey of mine – it has been fantastic.”

Previously, Noah played for Kennington Juniors, with a pivotal role in the U16's Kent County Cup victory.

A player who looks like one to watch for the future; Noah, we're all so proud your hard work and determination has produced such an incredible achievement, and will be sure to keep an eye out on your future progress!
